Showing rent-to-own on your website
How a shed dealer can explain rent-to-own clearly on its website: what to show, what to leave to the rent-to-own company, and what shoppers ask.

Say plainly that you offer it
Rent-to-own lets a shopper take a building home without paying for it all at once, and for many it is what makes the purchase possible. If you offer it, say so on every building’s page and in your menu, not only at the counter.
Explain how it works, in plain words
Give rent-to-own its own page. Say in a few short sentences how it works with your rent-to-own company: the terms they offer, what is paid up front, how monthly payments are made, how to own the building early, and what happens at the end of the term.
Use your rent-to-own company’s own description as the source, and keep the page in step when they change their terms.
Monthly prices come from your rent-to-own company
Rates and terms are set by the rent-to-own company, not by you, and they change. Show monthly figures only from their current rate sheet or calculator, show the term beside every monthly figure, and update your site when they send new rates. Never estimate a monthly payment yourself.
The rules belong to your rent-to-own company and your state
Rent-to-own agreements are regulated, and the rules differ from state to state. Ask your rent-to-own company what they require you to show wherever you advertise their program, and follow it on your website too. This guide is general advice, not legal advice.
Answer what shoppers ask
Shoppers ask the same questions. Answer them on your rent-to-own page, using your rent-to-own company’s answers:
- What do I pay to get started?
- Can I pay it off early, and is there a discount if I do?
- What happens if I miss a payment?
- Who do I pay each month?
- Is delivery included?
- Who is responsible if the building is damaged?
Make applying easy
Link to your rent-to-own company’s application if they have one online, or say exactly how to apply: at the lot, by phone, or with a form. Tell shoppers what they’ll need to have ready.
